Meet the Mom Behind Purple Monkey Playroom

Mouna Soumahoro- Owner of Purple Monkey Playroom

Mouna Soumahoro is an 8-month veteran in business ownership, but Purple Monkey Playroom has been a neighborhood staple for over 13 years. Originally from Côte d’Ivoire, Mouna is a French native speaker and a mechanical engineer with a passion for STEM and sustainability. Most importantly, she’s a mom to almost-4-year-old son, her biggest inspiration. As a single mother living in the city, Mouna was searching for a safe and engaging space for her son to play and socialize while also offering her a chance to connect with other parents. When the opportunity to take over Purple Monkey Playroom came up, it was the perfect fit.

“I wanted a place where kids could thrive and parents could feel a sense of community. Purple Monkey offered that—a cozy but open space, great toys for both physical and mental stimulation, and a passionate team dedicated to creating joyful experiences for families.”

About Purple Monkey Playroom

Located in Bucktown, Purple Monkey Playroom is an indoor play space and birthday venue designed for kids to explore, imagine, and grow. With a focus on STEAM activities, language learning, and cultural experiences, it’s more than just a place to play—it’s a hub for early learning and social development.

The playroom is a Parent’s Choice Award winner and offers:

• Year-round birthday parties for kids 1-6

• Seasonal classes and open play sessions

• STEM camps for kids 5-8 during school breaks

• A safe, enclosed environment (doors are locked for security!)
