About Us

In February 2024, we sat down for a Moms' night out dinner with two other friends and realized how essential it was to break our routines, take time for ourselves, and find joy amidst the challenges of motherhood. Our conversation highlighted the importance of having a supportive community, sharing experiences, and rediscovering our individual passions and identities.

Our Story
We've both faced our own struggles—navigating pregnancy losses, covid pregnancies, birth trauma, postpartum anxiety, and personal health battles. Just to name a few! Through these challenges, we found strength in each other and the supportive networks we were beginning to build. We realized that we wanted to extend this sense of connection for ourselves and for other moms as well.
Thus, the idea of "Friend of a Mom" was born. Our goal is to create a welcoming community where moms can fill their social cups, forge quality connections, share in laughter, joys, and milestones, and navigate the hard times together. We believe every mom deserves a village, and through this series, we aim to build and nurture that village, ensuring no mom ever feels alone.
About Me
I didn't start this because I'm good at it, I started it because I really need it! Like so many moms, one of the things I've struggled with most is a loss of identity, always putting myself last (way behind work and being a mom). There is something really special about this group, where everyone is going through the same types of challenges and can truly relate - no sugar-coating allowed. I'm so proud of what Lucie and I have created so far, a monthly event where the only decision you have to make is to show up. I hope that when you leave our events, you feel happy and fulfilled, and a little bit more like your "old self."
About Me
My journey to motherhood began in 2015 when I met my husband in a bar—straight out of a rom-com. We married in 2019, moved to London, and were overjoyed to be expecting. But in February 2020, at five months pregnant, we lost our baby. That heartbreak sent me into postpartum anxiety and depression.
When I became pregnant again, fear overshadowed my joy. Even with a smooth pregnancy, I couldn’t shake the anxiety. My son was born on Valentine’s Day 2021, and while I was overjoyed, the pandemic made the first year isolating. Thankfully, I found amazing mom friends who helped me navigate new motherhood.
In fall 2021, I met Erin at swim lessons, and our friendship quickly grew into an incredible support system. Then, in July 2022, just as life felt normal again, a routine mammogram revealed breast cancer. The months that followed were filled with fear and tough decisions—but this time, I wasn’t alone. My mom group, coworkers, and even clients rallied around me. A mom friend’s push to get that mammogram quite literally saved my life.
By 2023, with cancer behind me, I embraced joy again, launching duffy.designco as a creative outlet. When we started Friend of a Mom, incorporating custom favors from my business felt natural—adding a special touch to our gatherings. Our dinner series has been such a rewarding experience, and we’re excited to see how it evolves.
Let’s create a village where we uplift one another, celebrate triumphs, and navigate challenges together. No mom should ever feel alone.
